Click the link in step 2 and the the Frame Designer will open in a new window. At the top of this page open the "COLLECTIONS" folder then the "Design Collection" folder where you will find every image with dimensions in inches. Create a folder and save any of the images to it. In the Frame Designer, use the "Browse" button to select any image from your new folder. When you open it, the file name will appear in the box to the left of the "Browse" button. The file name contains the image dimensions. Type the first dimension (always the width of the image) into the smaller box below "(What is the width of your artwork?(in inches)" and click "Upload". You can refer to steps 15-18 that describe how to use the Frame Designer and offer some tips on frame and matte selections.
For complete step-by-step instructions please start here:
1) With this powerful tool you can choose from over 1500 frames and 500 mattes to create a custom variation using our images and your creativity! The following instructions lead you step-by- step so you only need very basic computer skills. OK, proceed to step 2 and let's get started!
2) Open the Interactive Frame Designer by clicking on the following link . http://fslj.larsonjuhl.com/ The Interactive Frame Designer will open a new tab/window"Larson Juhl Framing". Now you can easily switch between these instructions and the frame designer.
3) Create a new folder on your desktop to save the images you want to build a custom frame and matte combination for or you can just save the images you like to your desktop as described in the following instructions.
4) Read instructions 4-9 then left click on "COLLECTIONS" at the top center of this page then left click on "Design Collection", explore the images by scrolling, then rightclick on the image you like and the following window will pop-up. Point the cursor at "Save image as..." and it will be highlighted as shown. Let's use the Lion for our example. Click the back arrow twice to return here from the "Design Collection" window.
5) Left click on "Save image as..." and your desktop window should appear.
6) If the window doesn't look similar to above, Scroll up till "Desktop" appears under "Favorites" and left click "Desktop". All your desktop folders and applications will now appear similar to this example. Notice I created a folder " My Custom Framed Images". If you created a desktop folder, use the scroll bar till it appears then left click it and it will be highlighted as shown. Left click "Open" and the following window will appear. After you save images to your folder, they will appear when you reach this step.
7) Left click "Save" and the image file will be saved to the custom folder you created on your desktop. Repeat this procedure for other images you wish to frame with the frame designer.
8) If you did not create a custom folder on your desktop, you will follow the same procedure (#5) and left click on "Desktop" and the following window with your desktop icons will appear.
9) Left click on "Save" and the image file will be saved to your desktop. If you will be saving multiple images, creating a desktop folder will prevent your desktop from becoming cluttered with individual files of the images you save.
10)You can now begin designing custom matte and frame combinations! Open the tab "Larson Juhl Framing" The interactive frame designer window will open. Remember you can quickly switch between tabs to refer back to these instructions. Left click the "Browse" button, then left click "Desktop" and use the right scroll bar to find the folder you created or the Lion image file you saved to your desktop. Left click your folder or the Lion image file on your desktop and the window will appear similar to this example for the custom folder and the next example for the Lion file on your desktop. with the folder or file containing the Lion highlighted.
11) Now for the first example above with the custom desktop folder you created, left click "Open" then left click the Lion image and the window will look similar to the next image below.
12) If you left click "Open" in the second example above with the Lion image file highlighted, the window will contain the file name in the box next to the "Browse" button. Follow the steps in 13 to enter the image width and upload the image.
13) Left click "Open" again and type the first number from the file name in the box "What is the width of your artwork?(in inches). In this case it's 20, so type 20 in the box and left click "Upload"
14) After uploading, The window will look like this.
15) Now add a Matte, or multiple Mattes as shown next. You can adjust the width on all 4 sides with the sliders. We 45 degree bevel all mattes as shown. Note: Matte prices vary widely, and range in material from raw silk to paper. The A4xxx series are what we use in the images we offer matted and framed and are a great combination of quality and value. Unfortunately, the Matte item number only shows after the matte is selected so you will have to try different selections if you are looking for the A4xxx series. Some can be found on the last page of mattes. The B8xxx series from Nielsen-Bainbridge are more numerous and cost more.
16) Now it's time to add a frame. If you desire a black frame, good value can be found in the Brooklyn, Gramercy and Tribecca collections.Our standard black frame is the Gramercy 345790. For a beautiful silver frame that has the look of real stainless steel, try the Gramercy 345791, it's what we use for our standard silver frame. It shows as more grey than the actual frame so you can substitute the CR2 434110 to get a better idea of what the Gramercy frame looks like. You can also go to the Larson-Juhl website http://www.larsonjuhl.com/c-1-wood-moulding.aspx and browse all the frame offerings in detail before using the Interactive Matting and Framing tool. You can click the back arrow to return here at any time. Note that you can enter the frame item # at the bottom center "Search by item #" to enter any frame from the vast Larson-Juhl collection. Note that like mattes, frame prices vary widely. After you add a frame, the window will look like this;
17) Now you can send your creation to us for a fast quote by left clicking on the envelope icon to the right of "Share with your friends or framer". This window will open.
18) Note that bill@luxfotos.com is what you will type in the "framer's email" box, this box will be blank when the window opens. Then type the email address you would like the quote returned to and voila'! you just created a custom matte and frame to your taste! We will respond with a quotation within 24 hours, usually less.
